Sorry folks, random thought thread :o

I was just wondering will Ryanair ever start the transatlantic flights they have talked about or is it marketing guff like other stunts just to raise profile?

    Eventually? Maybe.
    Before 2025? Probably not.

Not possible for many years, ME3 have bought most delivery slots on long haul aircraft for next 10 years or so.

You may be unhappy with the initial response but to be honest its a oft touted subject on an aviation forum.

At the moment Ryanair are miling the media attention anytime they mention long haul low cost. It gets them great column inches. Notice the new round of RyanAtlantic articles when they recently introduced their 'Business Fare'... many media articles seemd to think this equated to Business Class.

MoL has stated in the past and recently (within 8 weeks) that the proposed venture will not happen for 5-10 years, in addition it would require 20-30 modern fuel efficient widebody aircraft.

This requirement pretty much narrows it down to B787 or A350, perhaps B777 as well. This is not going to happen in the foreseeable future. In essence the airline industry is at a peak at present, thus all A350, B787, B777 production lines are booked up for 5-10 years. Ryanair need to acquire these aircraft cheaply and thus need the aviation industry to enter a trough again so they can buy all the cancelled production/delivery slots for the A350/B787.
Ryanair were able to take advantage of the post-Sept 11th downturn in 2002 and make a massive order with Boeing at approx 40% discount. This order fuelled the massive expansion of Ryanair in the last 10 years. Only in the last months have we seen them make another order to replace/expand their fleet.

I have no doubt that RyanAtlantic will happen at some point but at the moment it is a marketing ploy. But as past history has shown we could see a big order announced within 12 months if something happens soon to disrupt the industry.
Now the comments from MoL could also be a red herring and we could see a huge FR order for the A330neo soon!!!

Given it's potential capacity of 850+ in one class configuration, would the A380 appeal to MO'L for transatlantic flights?

Stansted is keen to attract the aircraft as a scheduled user at the airport and it would be the ideal base to begin any RyanAtlantic service.

Is the runway there long enough to accommodate a fully laden A380?

I know Ryanair have a long standing relationship with Boeing, but MO'L has always said a US bound service would fly under a different brand.

Not that the Boeing contract is set in stone anyway.

they have not ordered the jets, which they would have to order 5 years in advance

if you want to fly to America you need hubs in main airports to get people onto the plane

    they fly into cheaper airports

theres 2 much competition to america
