A stabbing today on Dublin's Abbey St amongst kids and Christmas shoppers

Has anyone else seen this come up on their social media feeds in the last hour? I think it was only a matter of time before this happened in Dublin's city centre.

How many guards has Dublin got at any one time does any one know? It would seem there's never enough on the streets.

I think shooting up is a good part of the problem.

There'll never be enough guards on the street, they can't be everywhere. That's not to say that there shouldn't be more though

A quick search of RTE and The Journal didn't bring up anything about the incident.

There's only 6 of them. Now if we could only get another 2, then all of Dublin would be covered and this type of thing wouldn't happen.

Big problem with junkies, aggressive begging and petty theft in the city centre. Gaurds don't seem to have the resources to get it under control.

There didn't seem to be any shortage of Garda resources protecting Enda, Joan & co in the last two weeks...

Maybe that's why they weren't on Abbey Street this evening.

Abbey Street area has got progressively worse in the last few years. Hopefully the victim is ok.

Not surprised at all. No police. That is the be all and end all.

Enda has them deployed against water tax protesters instead of patrolling our streets for criminals.

Maybe if little thugs and gurriers were not being tolerated at so called peaceful protests they would not be needed.

We don't allow mob rule in this country thus every protest has to be policed and certain ones in certain places more than others.

Stories like these, almost make me afraid to leave the house nowadays.

Think i'll just spend the rest of my life, living in my basement and working at home. I can move all my stuff down there, and hook it all up, and if I need anything, i'll just order out for it. Wouldn't be so bad isolating myself from everyone.

There is no excuse for Dublin city center to be in the state it is in. Junkie clinics, lack of police, begging and loitering are due entirely to the authorities and city council and could be sorted out quickly if the intent was there.

Nobody whether tourists or locals should be intimidated to walk within 500 m of the main street of our capital city.

I would be a strong advocate of a genuine zero tolerance zone within a certain radius of O'Connell St.

I don't spend that much time in the city centre but things seem to be getting progressively worse. There's an awful lot of junkies and homeless people floating around the city centre and D8.

The stabber and the stabee got bored waiting for the street to be clear of kids and christmas shoppers, they gave it two hours, and at one stage it looked promising, just normal men and women, till a wan with some gift-wrapped boxes hove into view with two eleven year olds. At that stage they gave up and just went for it regardless.

Whole bunch of guards in Ballsbridge today due to rugby game. But there is never trouble at rugby matches, so easy gig for them I reckon.

Was on Henry street tonight, saw this poor girl sitting near river island, slumped against the wall, asleep/unconscious with a cup by her side, her face mushed up like she'd fallen or been beaten, and her lips were almost blue. A terrible sight, I can't stop thinking about her all evening. A little bit down there was another person begging, on o Connell bridge there was two I think, and some Young lad nodding off on grafton street clearly strung out too.

Then as I was on the luas some junkie (albeit polite I'll give him that) was getting up real close into people's faces looking for money with a sob story. There is no escaping it. They are everywhere. So many people. I can't think why it's tolerated. That people are allowed sit on busy streets, mashed off their tits, of course it's going to end in bedlam

I thought there was private security on the Luas to deal with these people. I don't use the service myself that much but I recall seeing people in black security gear when I was last on it.

People will say every city have these problems and I am certainly not disputing that. However Dublin City Centre is a tiny area and they all seem to congregate in the city centre and being so small it is more noticeable. This projects an awful image for tourists and Christmas shoppers alike. Everywhere you look there seems to be dead eyed junkies. I walk up O'Connell street every night and there does be a menacing atmosphere about the place. Its disgraceful and the powers that be don't seem to have a interest in improving the place.

To be fair to the security they do a great job but they're not on every tram although as I was getting off there was 4 of them at the stop.

I feel sad for the junkies, especially that girl today, I feel so worried that she looked so close to actually dying. Not just strung out but proper unwell. It's obviously in every town, and would be fools to think otherwise, but where I'm from you don't see people sitting on the street begging (well apart from Roma) heroin addicts are around for sure but you wouldn't SEE them. It's strange

    Only a matter of time?

What planet are you on? There are weekly shootings in the city, let alone stabbings.

    Place is a kip.
