Do you have an DVD recorder? if you do - Scart from Sky Box to DVD recorder and Scart from DVD recorder to the TV then record your programme of the Sky Box!

If you're comfortable with taking it apart, and have a PC that you can fit it into, you can remove the hdd and play the files through your PC/laptop. Otherwise, no.

You can't do that either as the recordings, bar from the FTA channels, are encrypted.

Complete rubbish the sky recordings are encrypted and will not work. You may or may not be able to back them up with a dvd recorder but chances are you wont as most films will come out in black and white as once again sky have taking care of this...however some dvds recorders will bypass the macrovision protection.

You will need to do this before your card expired.

    Such bad advice.

Sticking a sky+ HDD into a pc will do nothing except possibly corrupt the files.

To get anything directly off the disk you need to use expvr which was specifically written to extract and copy sky+ recordings, before connecting the disk you need to follow the instructions carefully as some windows programs write files to new disks that corrupt them.

Even with that program all you can get access to are the unencrypted recordings.

With the older SD sky+ boxes if you disconnected the satellite feed before the card was cancelled it would still work for some time to watch already recorded programmes, the current boxes stop working within a short time frame if they are not recieving any signal.

Unfortunately the only option available is to record all the programmes in real time onto a DVD recorder or similar. A slow pain in the arse and loss of quality for HD recordings but that is what you get with sky's closed platform, a non functioning reorder box (even if you have paid full price for it) and no access to the content you have paid for with your subscription.

sky are not stupid, you could sign up for a month, record stacks of movies, then cancel an then watch al the movies BUT sky had that sorted, the box looks for a valid card on playback and ... the rest is dud recordings.
