Almost? Clearly you were doing it wrong.

Tooth fairy had a couple of call outs to our house because of these bad boys.

I remember the last time I ate a wham bar. I was about 6/7, sitting in the back of the car and one of my teeth was a little loose. Took a bite out of it, chewed it for a while and stopped, wondering why the middle of it had suddenly become unchewable....

As for big time bars. The vending machine in my school had those. I remember them being 50c and the only time I bought one three came out, ha. Those things were solid.

Wham bars were great. Though I was a fan of Stingers, Refreshers and Desperate Dan bars. All of them were ace, anything fizzy, acidic, sherberty or sour was poison I couldn't resist.

Acid drops. Lemon drops. Pear drops. Rhubarb and Custard boiled sweets. Fizz Wizz. The lot. You name it, if it was sour and acidic as hell confectionary, I ate it.

Desperate Dans were ace. Orange bars with the fizzy black bits in it. Yum! I think there was a lemon or a lime Roy Of The Rovers one too I got on the cover of an Eagle comic or even a Roy Of The Rovers comic. I forget. Those were ace too.

    Pretty much my tastes exactly!

Roy of the Rovers was pineapple flavour if I remember correctly

I remember that bar well because when i was about 8 or 9 my friend almost choked on one when we were in the garden having a bit of a run around. Havnt ate one to this day in fear!

I remember the Desperate Dan ones (couldn't recall the name before you mentioned it though), and the Roy of the Rovers bars were definitely real. One of my favourites. I loved the Highland Toffee bars too.

I wasn't crazy for sour sweets, but apple drops were great.

From the Roy Of The Rovers wiki: "The confectionery company McCowans produced a pineapple-flavoured "Roy of the Rovers" chew bar in the 1990s."

That's the one I remember. Deffo came free on the cover of the comic i'm near-certain.

Ah here, anything acidic as hell was alright by me. Eating UFO's and refreshers chews until the walls of your cheeks (mouth ones!!!) were ripped to shreds. Savage!

Interesting fact that has escaped my attention for 21 years until tonight. Roy Race lost his foot in a helicopter crash in 1993. :(

I need to find that comic someplace and read it. What a tragic eending. :(

So, the cabs look great too OP!

I might say though, invest in a CRT for the upright, plenty of resources around here to help, both with supply of the bits and bobs for it and setting it up.
Suitable filters and whatnot are also out there for making the most of the LCD panel in the upright, the local brain trust can help you out there as well.

The fullsize went out with a 20" lcd, (I know I know) its what my client wanted as a space saving design. Its also going to be pretty simple for him to swap it out safely if there are problems later on as its just there on a vesa mount.

It actually looked pretty good once the software was all set up with scanlines and filters etc. adjusted gamma and other stuff on the monitor as well.

At the end of the day he liked it and i got paid.

I keep meaning to try out a slg as they seem to be coming down in price. I have a 619 in 1 board and would be VERY interested to see how it works with that.

I'm on the lookout for a big 4:3 crt to throw in a cab, the trick is getting one that isnt too deep and that turns on automatically when it gets a signal. Would like a nice bit of screen curve as well.

You can build a SLG for < €5 if you can do basic soldering. I used to build them directly onto the 60-1 board I fitted to bartops.

    Follow this guide :)

    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/other/vga-scanlines.htm

You can add in a couple of trimpots to the VGA colour lines to vary the intensity of the 'scanline' if you like. The guide above pulls them to GND to every second line is black which can be a bit severe.

Thanks. And now it looks like i have a project for the Christmas holidays, While I'm ok at soldering for repairs and making audio cables etc. I'm still pretty new to electronics. Where would you recommend I get my bits from?

I usually get most of my stuff from Farnell (ie.farnell.com), will be more expensive than Ebay but next day delivery and genuine parts.

You might be able to get everything in Maplins as well, hate recommending that because of their stupid prices but for a small few parts on a Sunday their handy.
