Question about ranking for intern posts

Had a quick question about the ranking for intern posts.

As far as i can see the HSE website says that its
    1. EU citizens from Irish med schools that get priority over non EU grads of irish med schools etc.

However i have been told by our school that its Irish citizens From Irish med schools that are allocated first based on centile, then EU citizens who are grads of Irish med schools next and so on down the line.

So my question is do Irish citizens from Irish schools get priority over Non Irish, EU citizens from Irish schools or are all EU grads (irish, english etc.) from irish med schools thrown in together and the centile is just used?

Hope that makes sense, any help much appreciated!

I wouldn't think so. EU law would require all EU students in the same circumstances to be treated equally.

im not so sure, for example if applying to the foundation programme in the UK preference is given to UK citizens from UK med schools....so not sure if EU law applies. I know other countries such as australia gives priority to citizens for intern

the HSE website is quite vague so im not too sure even as ive been told irish citizens from irish schools get priority

Fairly sure all EU grads are considered together.

It's very roughly lumped into two groups: those who require a work permit to work in Ireland and those who don't.

Those who don't (i.e. all EU citizens, non-EU citizens with certain visas) enter the pool first, and are ranked by centile. Jobs go to that group first. Those who do require a work permit (most non-EU citizens) are ranked by centile amongst themselves, then get any jobs left over.

Things get messy when someone is offered a position and turns it down... don't ask me how that's done!

Those positions go to people on the reserve list. e.g. mainly the non-EUs who need a work permit. They generally bump up the number of intern places to meet the number of EU eligible graduates. But it means that what could be quite in demand spots that went to a high centile applicant just goes into the pool at the end.

And quite a few non-EUs got no offer of an Irish internship.

There were a number of people in my class who applied for the UK, notified the HSE that they had accepted that offer and withdrew from the Irish internship application but ended up getting an offer anyway. When they didn't accept them they went into the pool and were subsequently offered to non-EUs.
