Well it is nearly Christmas :P !

    Here's what I've found so far -

    Aldi

Poinsettia - on sale from 4th Dec - Irish Premium Poinsettia - €9.99

    Wreath - on sale 7th & 14th Dec - Irish Christmas Wreath - €9.99

    Lidl

    Poinsettia - on sale 27th Nov - Mini €1.29, Standard €2.99 & Large €6.99

    Wreath - on sale 27th Nov - 2 varieties - €9.99

Can't find anything on Tesco or Supervalu websites

If I remember last year Tesco had nice sized Irish Poinsettia for €6.99 and gave a guarantee until 6th January on them !

Got a large red one a week ago for 4 euro in Supervalu. Neglected it since then and it is thriving and looks great. Got a lemon one today in Ikea - think it was also 4 euro. Looks nice and healthy.

Supervalu's Medium Poinsettia for 4€ Irish grown. Very good plants. Won't get cheaper than that I think kitchenkid

I bought one of the plants in Supervalu last friday week. Despite watering its looking pretty withered and a lot if the leaves have fallen off.
Ill get one in lidl and see if there is a difference in quality

Not a poinsettia but B&Q have a red peace lily for 14.99 I think. They look festive at Christmas but they flower long after and look exotic for the rest of the year. They last as long as you give them a drop of water every week or two,on very little care mine has been flowering all year now. If you put them in a red pot they look stunning. Also they're one of the best plants you can get for purifying the air.
I think they're a great and slightly unusual gift, a nice and lasting alternative to the poinsettia.

Aldi have fresh wreaths (expensive but nice) for 9.99 on Sunday next.

I thought I got good quality fresh wreaths for the likes of 6.99 in Tesco and Supervalu last year

Poinsettias are everywhere this year, just be careful when buying it, make sure the plants are not displayed in a draughty place. I stopped at a petrol station this evening and there was a few boxes of poinsettias on the ground at the entrance outside, some small plants, some big. I mentioned to the cashier that they would die if left outside, and she said that's where they were told to put them. Please purchase your poinsettia in any shop, insist on having it wrapped too, a cold gust of wind over the top of the plant on the way to the car will seriously affect it. Water when necessary, I find the weight of poinsettia is a good indicator of when it needs watering, a saucer really helps, and rainwater at room temperature is best. Position away from heaters & draughts and keep them in plenty of daylight.
Tell everyone to avoid these petrol station poinsettias, even if it is only four euros, it's four euros badly spent.

If it's quality you're after, Don't forget your local florist for wreaths and ponsettias. Guaranteed they will treat the plants and flowers with proper care and attention so that you get them in best condition, that's their specialism after all.

Yes, but at a premium price no doubt

No doubt, but you get what you pay for, and as I said, if quality is important, then it's worth paying for. If it isn't, sure anything will do......

Jeez, never realised they were so weak and susceptible to the elements.

    Cheapest doesn't mean bargain.

We have ours from Christmas 2 years ago, sadly there is no more red on the plant.

The poinsettia I posted about earlier in the thread has since gone to the compost bin.
    Good night sweet prince

Ime you water these from the bottom, ie put water into the saucer or tray it sits in and by the process of capillary action watch your plant bloom. Never overwater, ive always only watered just when I see the leaves beginning to droop a wee bit.

Any sign of "real" wreaths less than €9.99 anywhere? Don't know why they are so expensive this year - everywhere they are €9.99

€7 in Meath St :). We always strip all the tatty 'decorations' on it and put our own more tasteful ones on. Looks lovely!
