I currently get half rate increase for a child on Invalidity Pension, as the child reaches 18 this month I have received a form from Social Welfare that the school has to sign to say that the child is staying there until June 2015, thats done and I know I will receive the increase until then. So, what happens come next September, when, fingers crossed, she goes to Uni (will be applying for a SUSI grant) can I reapply for a half rate increase seeing as she will be in full-time education ? (I can see the payment can be made up to 22 yrs old) Thanks

    Hi Spook ie -

If you are getting a long-term social welfare payment and your child is in full-time education, an IQC will be paid up to 22 years of age or up to the end of the academic year in which he or she reaches 22.

As the invalidity pension is a long term social welfare payment it’s my understanding that you may be able to keep the half-rate child dependent payment as long as your child is in full-time education.
