Parcel Motel gone rip off or error?

Just received a text my oversized parcel is in the depot for collection. They took €7 for that and are asking for another €10.50 to have it delivered to my home address.

Now I wasn't quite sure whether it was going to be oversized or not, the item is borderline, it depends on the packaging. Fair enough that it turns out to be oversized. Charges are also fair enough as they are what's stated in their price list.

But my preferred parcel motel is in Waterford and so is their local depot - on the way to work as it happens - and the depot they expect me to pick it up from is in Dublin. Now isn't that just lovely?

Is that now their standard (extraction) practice? I couldn't find that in their T&Cs. Last time I had an oversized parcel it was ready for collection in Waterford no bother. Unless this is an error - which I doubt - they leave me with no option but to dish out another €10.50 which makes it €17.50 from NI to Waterford, not terribly cheap.

What happens if the item I have ordered is oversized and does not fit into a Parcel Motel locker?

We will notify you by SMS text and Email to let you know if your parcel does not fit into one of the lockers and ask you to collect at our National Distribution Centre in Finglas or to contact us to make alternative arrangements, which include an option to collect at any of our other Nightline Depots (at no extra charge) and onward delivery. Additional Charges may apply for onward delivery.

the way I read it is you can just ring them and ask to collect it in Waterford, for free, gratis like :D

Nice thanks. That somehow escaped me.

I think the oversized parcel service (probably even more so than the regular service) can be ridiculous value (if the depot is convenient to you).

I had a load of steel parts delivered that would have cost 60 pounds to courier from the UK.

3.50 to Parcelmotel up North and collected in Finglas on the way home for free!!

If you are not near your collection centre, the price of fuel + your time probably costs more than 10.50. The real nuisance is having to send an item back to the UK - retailers will refund you for Royal Mail to Belfast only. Otherwise its 14.90 to a non parcel motel address.

I rang them and they will send it down to the Waterford depot at no extra cost. All good. Thx.
