I wouldn't consider Leopardstown - I think it's actually a ladies only club but, if not, it's predominantly ladies and the course is very poor

In the same area Edmonstown has some good deals too but still wants welciome money. Probably a better course

Depending on sons age, there is also a student rate which may make up the difference between Stackstown and Edmonstown. Both great courses mind you

Out of that list .... The Grange is the best option IF you can afford it.
Leopardstown is not worth considering tbh and Stackstown is probably the most do-able one as its €1350 per annum.

Theres also Glencullen / Newlands & City West as well as Powerscourt / Bray / Glen of the Downs. The worlds your lobster :D

The Grange is €15k hello money and then another €2k per year, for that money you would be better joining The Castle which IMO is a nicer course and around the same cash..

Second that with Castle over Grange golf club. Probably better chance of your son getting in as there is usually long waiting lists as well as the hello money for adult membership.

Druids Heath have a deal with a free child membership thrown in.

Also if your are mentioning places like Grange and Leopardstown you might need to do some more research. Leopardstown is great for beginers or a group of ten year olds to go out have a hack round but no more

Leopardstown isn't a golf club as such. It's mainly ladies society golf.
Dun Laoghaire has no entry fee for 5 day membership if you're 63 or over. There's a very sociable crowd in this category and 3 excellent 9 hole courses.
Edmondstown must be worth consideration too. The Grange seems expensive to join.

And rathfarnham has become 18 holes according to a recent post on boards.
Definitely scratch leopardstown from the list

Of the one's I've played in that area, both Grange & Castle are nice courses. I'm not a fan of Edmondstown or Rathfarnham. I've never played Leopardstown, but it doesn't look up to much from what I can see from the stands at the racing. Never played Stackstown, but heard it's a fair old hike around it.

    Hi,
As Far as i remember your son if off a plus handicap, may be easier for him to get into a club on his own.
often hear of guys joining bigger clubs and not having to pay any joining fee.

The Grange is the only one of those I'd be bothered with. You would greatly increase your options if you widen the circle a bit. Another 15 minutes would give you half a dozen others to consider.

Are there any members of The Grange Gc on boards that might give me some feedback?

One of the moderators is a member, greebo. I was a member about 20 years ago. I grew up in the area. Presume the course hasn't changed too much (M50 land loss excepted). It was fabulous back then and presumably remains so.

Would love to play it again some time.

On other options, Castle is another fantastic option, if you can afford the hello money and membership fees. Have to admit it's really odd that you mentioned Leopardstown, it has no business being even mentioned in the same sentence as the others!!

You probably need to expand a bit on what you actually want, budget etc...

You are really spoiled for choice around Rathfarnham!
