    Hey,

    Anyone any experience with this?

Driving on the M1 and had the cruise set at 120 the car jumped and started to slow down. The cruise light was off and I couldn't turn it back on.

Tried flicking the switch off and on then resetting but no joy.

I'm due a service this week anyway but can't get to my normal indie mechanic for this one and was going to use the main dealer for convenience sake. If the cruise needs work though I've been researching and some say it needs a new stalk which I'm assuming the dealer is going to charge a fortune for replacing. I want to try and fix it myself first before replacing the stalk.

No errors showing On the dash but don't have a vagcom to try read for codes.

Serviced on time every time and really need the cruise control driving as much as I do up and down the M1

    Thanks

A faulty switch will log an obvious fault code.

A faulty clutch pedal switch will also stop the cruise control from engaging and won't log a fault code.

Those would be the two most common causes of the cruise not working, assuming you don't have any ABS warning lights on? Generally the cruise control won't work while there is a fault in the ABS system for safety reasons.

    Thanks George,

I suspect it is a faulty switch as there is no ABS warning light and also the cruise control started working again this morning so it seems to be something intermittent. Do you know if the switch uses contacts and if a bit of switch cleaner would help or do more damage?

Some one cracked my wing this week as well so part of me is wondering could the two be related?

    Have you checked the fuses?

Quick follow up guys. Thanks for the tips. Having researched the problem more and getting sick of the intermittent fault I fixed it this week, or so I believe.

There seems to be a common enough issue with dirt on the contacts of the switch. Easy enough to solve. Opened the back of the stalk by prizing off the back cover. It's kept in with snap hooks so a guitar pick was used so as not to mark the plastic.

Then there are 2 t5 torque screws keeping the controller in place, unscrew them and a quick connector takes it out. A squirt of IPA and clean with a cotton bud. Then put it back together. Been driving with it for almost a week and hasn't resurfaced.
