OneDrive syncing problem

I purchased Office365 the other day to avail of the 1 TB cloud storage (soon to be unlimited).

I copied my 'documents' folders into the OneDrive 'documents' folder and while it has uploaded the folder structure to OneDrive, it doesn't seem to be uploading any files. I want to use this as a backup so need to know it is working!

Now I have about 200GB of data to upload, so I know it is going to take along time, but is there any way of checking the progress? I am on a Mac.

It has been telling me I am using 1.8GB out of 1TB, and is downloading 6 files (9MB out of 9MB) for the last 2 days! Whereas it should be uploading about 200GB of data.

    Any suggestions please?

OneDrive or OneDrive for Business ?

    OneDrive, not the business version.

The only thing it seems to be doing is syncing downstream as photos get added to OneDrive from my camera. But the uploading of the documents folder is not happening.

We've installed this for a few people, and it is truly a horrible horrible piece of software... It just simply doesnt work and shouldnt have been released... On two occasions we have spent three hour sessions on the phone with a (very rude) Microsoft Support Tech "Renee", and still no proper solution to the problem...

Every day, you open up your PC, and there are the dreaded Xs beside all of the files that didnt sync for whatever stupid reason....

Kill Onedrive and restart the app and likely the machine too. The normally fixes it for me.

Delete the cache... That's what Renee normally suggests.. And it works, for about a day... :pac:

2nd helpful post in the thread. I bet your customers love dealing with you.

I agree with CountyHurler client sync is totally useless and just is not worth the headache of having to manage unsynced files every day. Also the cache folder size can be 3-4 times the size of your actual data.

Really what value do you place on your data or clients data.

Get cubby instead 5GB for personal or €40/year euro for 100GB. No hassle does what it says on the tin.

Thanks for the replies. The upside of OneDrive (if it worked) is the large cloud storage. I want to use it for my data, which I back up locally anyway, but want to back up off site also. And I have a large amount, probably about 1TB so this seems perfect as it's very cheap.

However, it doesn't work correctly! I have heard Microsoft are bringing out a new version of Office for the Mac next year. Maybe that will sort it.

After a lot of messing around, it is now uploading files (224,993 files to be exact!). I expect it to take weeks, but I will see when it finishes if it then syncs. Not holding out much hope.

I have killed the app and restarted, deleted the app and reinstalled etc... but
it only started uploading for the first time after I installed Cloud Commander. Maybe it didn't like the competition.

Anyway I'll let it keep uploading and see where I stand when it is finished.

Well apparently sarcasm is the way to go, so I'll follow your lead when speaking to customers in the future...

OP, I didnt mean to be unhelpful, if it was possible to help with this one I certainly would, but I've wasted days on OneDrive without getting it to work. One thing we'v found with all clouds services, whether provided by MS or other providers, is that they sell it with a "we'll take care of everything" attitude... But when something goes wrong... like your email is down, your OneDrive wont synch or with one particular client their online backup did not work...

We know one company who had a PC stolen, went to get their online backup online to find that it hadnt been working. The company pointed them back to their contract where the fine print told them that they themselves were fully responsible .... So my general point would be that I think that people need to get away from the mindset that you can put something in the cloud and forget about it... Particularly for backups...

Our customers want the OneDrive so that they have access to their files across the world... If you only require a backup, I would look at something different... We have been using Clonezilla to take full workstation/server hard drive images to external USB drives and it is an amazing free solution...

Not unhelpful at all, I appreciate the replies and the insight. I use Time Machine on my Mac to do a backup to an external drive and it works great so I am sorted with offline backups. What I want to do is to keep an off site backup in the cloud. Accessing the files from other locations would be a bonus also, so I want the best of both worlds!

I think I will have to forget about oneDrive for the moment until it is updated and hopefully it will be sorted out then.

This conversation started in November 2014 . Here we are April 2015 and nothing has changed. I keep my appointments on a windows 8.1 phone occasionally they might appear on my pc. If I put something on my pc it might appear on the phone two days later. I also got a windows tablet same problem. Is it ever going to be sorted ???
