    Hey peps,

So I'm about to apply for a Civil servant job in IT, I'm currently working as a for a contractor as a support role which is based in an unrelated government organisation.

In my CV I want to emphasize the fact that I work in a Government organisation but as I stated I actually work for a 3rd party.
How is it best to explain this.

Here is my current situation so to make it clearer to you,
The names of the company and Government organisation here are makey uppy.

I work as an IT support engineer in "The National Blah Blah government agency" but this role is contracted out to "IT Company Inc".
So while my role is strictly dealing with the government agency IT needs my actual employer is "IT Company Inc".

    Thanks in advance

Why do you want to make this distinction?

I just think that if your applying for a public job that it would look good that I have experience working in another government agency.

Agree, but think you have worded the above wrong. Are you 100% of your time contracted to the govt agency?

How about "I work as an IT support engineer "IT Company Inc" which provides support to "The National Blah Blah government agency"

There must be more space where you can elaborate on the type of work you do in the govt agency.

I really really don't see why. Surely you should be looking to be hired on merit and experience rather than the fact you're already one of them.

Anyway, if you insist on taking that strategy, you should put down that you're working in the organisation you are in. Unless your contract requires you to work elsewhere then for all intents and purposes you are working for them. Only time that may be an issue is in transferring service as you technically won't have service to transfer.

Eh I'm just looking to get hired fella, really don't care if its on merit or if its because "I'm one of them" as you state.
I just want to get my CV to stand out as you can be sure there will be a truck load of CV's for these roles

Yeah but I mean I think if you're going with the attitude of well I'm already working for the government, I think it may work against you. People, even in the public sector, want people who are good and experienced, not just people who happen to have worked for the public sector before. Just a pov, do what you like with it.

Slightly different situation, but for employer at the moment I usually say

"XYZ Agency-name, on site for Large-MNC at SiteLocation" - which covers all the bases IMHO.

And as a former public servant, I believe that having some understanding of the difference between working in the public and private sectors is useful. Public-sector workers generally have to be seen to be fair, operate within their allocations, cannot refuse to serve more-difficult customers (except in extreme situations).
