Buying a cello in Dublin?

I played cello when I was in school and would like to take it back up.

Thing is I do have a cello but it was badly damaged and then repaired just before I gave up and since has been a nightmare to tune. I tried to retune it last week and one of the strings snapped - I don't think the pegs/bridge is right. I think the strings were decent (40/50 each) so I don't know could I get someone to take the other 3 off before I get rid of it or would the cello itself be worth something as a trade in?

Anyway I am serious about starting again and wondering where I should go in Dublin to get a new cello or to see if there is anything that can be done with the old one?!

I believe there's a man called James Beately in Smithfield or Stoneybatter who makes violins, cellos etc- he might take a look at it for you. Otherwise you could try Crehan's in Drumcondra for advice. There would be plenty of places in Dublin selling new ones (including the two above), but it might be worth checking out your own one first. Maybe the tuning problem is partly from lack of use i.e. the pegs are too tight, and it would improve with use? [Note: I am not a string player!!] Good luck :)
