Which would you recommend? It's for our sitting room, have an old plasma there which doesn't have saorview and currently have a sky+ hd box connected, I also currently have sky sub but I do have the Setanta card to access the Uk EPG when I don't have the sky sub.

I was all set for the humax box but started reading the Amiko 2 thread and I am currently undecided.

I was thinking if I got the Amiko 2, I would put a 4tb hard drive with it, making the cost roughly the same for each but with 4 times the storage with the amiko

The Alien has a terrestrial tuner, the Humax doesn't, so no Saorview with the Humax.

Only way you would get Irish channels with it would be to get a different satellite dish setup to access Saorsat, & this is only the RTE channels & TG4, with RTE1 still standard definition.

I have no personal experience of either of these receivers. The Alien is a different prospect to the Humax, as it's customisable.

The terrestrial forum has a few long-running threads on the Alien: this one deals with the Enigma OS, this one with Spark OS.

The boxes have differing capabilities (do NOT ask me what that means!)
