Heading to Tuscany in the summer with extended family. Flying into Pisa and looking around Siena and Montepulciano.

Can anyone recommend and Villas or sites for villas around Tuscany. I've been on Trip Advisor and Airbnb. The only problem with Airbnb is that there aren't many reviews so not sure I want to take any risks! It's bad enough being away with extended family!!! :p

    Try "agriturismo"

We got a beautiful place last year there. A bit out of the way but with a car it was easily accessible to Pisa, Florence etc.

+1 for Agriturismo. Stay away from owners direct etc as I always find UK website prices are massively inflated. Villa catignano just outside Siena is lovely, you will need a car though.

I was actually looking for self catering villas (i.e. having the whole place and pool to ourselves). A lot of these places appear to be B&B style villas!

http://www.tuscany-villas.ie/ seem to be mostly self catering.

My extended family (including inlaws!) stayed in this villa about 8 years ago. Nice villa, great pool, lovely big grounds - plenty of space to drag a recliner off into a corner if you needed an hour to yourself!

The nearby hilltop town of Lucignano was beautiful, with about 6-7 restaurants. It was an easy drive to practically anywhere in Tuscany, I remember we went to Siena, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Assisi and by train from Sinalunga to Florence and Rome for daytrips.

The only problem with the place is that you practically can't leave without a car. There is very little in walking distance (a small bar that seemed to be closed nearly all the time) and it's about 4km up a windy hill to Lucignano. A few of us did walk back down from the town one evening but there are no paths and only a narrow verge so it's not particularly safe. If you were happy to drive everywhere then it's great though.

Best of luck with your search. Over the last couple of years I've found tripadvisor the best search engine for villas, you can normally specify that you want a "Rental house" rather than a B&B type.

Thanks Nibtrix. That villa looks really nice. I have been told my some of the party that they'd like to be near a village in walking distance and not too remote!

That's always the problem with villa holidays, the convenient ones are always too small or too expensive!
