construction - public pavement damage

    hiya,

renovation underway at our home now with architect/main contractor etc. involved.

after two weeks, the demolition phase is coming to an end and foundation prep work is starting.

there has been a convoy of large trucks removing concrete/skips/topsoil and supplying stone.

unfortunately, the public pavement and dishing in front of our driveway has cracked in many places and is now unsafe to use. there are also some cracks to the road surface in front of the dished kerb.

i didn't see the trucks do the damage but would imagine that they are responsible.

our builder has taped off the section of pavement but the damage will only get worse.

one slight complication is that we have got pp to widen our driveway a bit but the cracking has extended beyond the edge of the planned dishing.

i haven't talked to our builder about this yet but in general terms, who would be responsible and what would be the steps and costs involved in remediation?

    thanks for your help,

    slippie

talk to your architect. This is a contractual issue which is taken care of under the standard forms of contract. Basically issue for the builder unless he can show the damage was pre existent.

ok; we will mention it to the architect.

we are using the standard riai contract, so it sounds like we will not have to cover these costs (phew!).
