Where to find investors?

Hi All, Just a quick one, where do you actually find investors? Not that I have a mad business idea or anything, I do have ideas on how to make some elements of business better and a sound business idea, but for the life of me cant get investors. The last body I tried pulled a David Copperfield on me at the last min.

I am looking to raise about 40-50K, but also get in with an investor who has an interest in growing out the business.

I am fully capable of doing all the work, but it is always good to get someone who sees a long term option there.
