The track was lifted, in some parts anyway at least. I know it crossed the N25 at some places but there's no trace of it anymore along the road. Interesting note, they lifted a small section of Waterford- New Ross to cut it off from the rest of the network.

The N25 crossing parts were lifted when the road was widened, both bridges and level crossings.
I think a section in Kilmacthomas was lifted when the Garda station was built where the train station was.

The only track still on the Waterford/Dungarvan section is that operated by the W&SVR - the remainder was lifted years ago.

There are a few bits left at some small level crossings that have survived being tarred over.

Was the track on Waterford-Dungarvan ever lifted? I realise that there is now the narrow gauge section from Waterford to Kilmeaden.

Waterford to Kilmeadan was lifted first to accommodate narrow gauge around 1998. Rest of line was lifted in spring 2003. Lifting started at Ballinacourty. I walked through the Durrow tunnel on a weekend April 2003 track had only been lifted a few days before. Could smell the creasote.

Today, this line intersects the N25 in three places:
-Kildermody, a few kilometres west of Kilmeaden. The N25 / railway intersection is original
-Just before the Kilmacthomas exit. The N25 Kilmacthomas bypass was built in the late 1990's, the railway was cut through the line...there wasn't originally a crossing here
-At the Mahon Falls exit a few kilometres after. Same again...bypass was cut through the original alignment

In the coming weeks, as part of the Deise Greenway, site clearance will be taking place at these 3 crossings to investigate whether footbridges or underpasses will be the most suitable way to maintain the original alignment.
