Returning to Ireland and starting new job

    Hi there.

    This is a question that I'm sure has been asked before but I can't find the right type of answer for my situation.

    I'm currently living and working in the UK for the last 3 years. At the end of this year I will be returning to Ireland to start a new job. Obviously I have not worked in Ireland in 3 years now, but had been before that.

    My question relates to the need for a P45. I have one from my previous employment in Ireland but that is 3 years old now and so no longer applies for the current tax year.

    What should I do in this case? I'd like to avoid messing around with emergency tax and get this sorted as simply as possible.

    Call the tax office and explain the situation - they'll arrange a tax credit cert for your new Irish employer

    Correct.

    You simply need to tell them your employer's tax registration number, and your start date.

    Also, mention that you have not been living in Ireland for several years.
