Domino pizza delivery in 2004

    I reply a decade later, having been a Domino’s employee PT from 2002-2004!

    To put more realism on ToxicPaddy’s estimates, it’s fair to say that as an owner car driver you could earn €90 in an 8 hr shift Sat night 17:00-01:00 without giving yourself a heart attack or attracting the Gardai’s attention by driving dangerously:

    €5/hr × 8 hr shift = €40
    25-30 deliveries × €1.20 = €30 - 36
    Tips = €20
    Total = €90-96

    Obviously, you’d have to take petrol etc out of that figure.

    The branch I worked at were churning out 600 deliveries per night, making them the busiest Domino’s in the world. Usually, you’d be given two deliveries at a time in nearby estates 1-3m away. 4 deliveries per hr would be good going, by the time you got back to the shop, deposited your money and were dispatched again. Many drivers were lazier than me & not really that bothered about making money, while many other drivers were much more competitive (possibly had families to pay for). Occasionally there were disputes between drivers over routes etc, and once or twice some argy bargy.

    Hope this helps Mr potential new employee!

    Fair play, is this the record for the latest reply ever to an initial question? Good reply though.

    I used to drive for Dominoes on a Honda Club 90. Got 4 euro basic ph and 1 euro per delivery. I did it for 10 months, never had so much money in my pocket. My record amount of deliveries was 52 in one shift, which inc. Dangerous driving. Tips and prepositions were definitely the perks of the job. Loved it, did it back in 04/05.

    Life was good in 2004. I don't think Domino's was as nice as it is now though ;)

    Are you covered by your insurer if you're in an accident when delivering?
    Assuming you've classed it as social, domestic and pleasure use.

    I have been offered one of these jobs but I drive a 1.8 car which is probably not the most suitable transport for this position. Would it be worth it?

    Would you need a lot of local knowledge or would you pick it up over time? I don't know the area that well but I have a decent sat nav...

    Weadick - you'll be fine man, just go for it, no more doubts required, you'll love it, & you'll never know who you'll meet and what they know.

    Absolutely not. You would need class 2 insurance which is hard to get and expensive

    Depends.. I had this for my last employer (they required me to indemnify them on the policy) as I travelled between sites in my own car and I think the cost was virtually nil and not an issue.

    Ring around would be my advice. I go through a broker myself.
