I'll be building soon. Iv more or less free rein.

    But I'm going fairly simple.

    Worchester 28 kw combi.

    Normal radiators zoned and trv's

    Acuabox boosted system besides toilets.

Toilets done with rainwater in attic with mains bypass in case of awesome summers

    stove non backboiler.

Split ensuite between what would be two kids room with electric shower.

Master gets proper shower with separate bath.

    I think that's basically it.

    Any issues or ideas.

Just curious as to how your going to provide the backup for your harvested water.I think its frowned upon to have harvested water an LA supply physically connected with just an isolation valve for fear of contaminating the LA supply with rain water.

Children turn into teenagers, either give them an ensuite each or just have a seperate bathroom.
After that you can't have too much insulation or too many zones. Design for a stat in every room or programmable radiator valves.

Get a prv for your head :) Or maybe a bottle of wine might just lower the pressure.

Haven't thought it properly through but I'd probably have a separate fill from mains into the tank in the attic.

That way there's no direct contact between mains and rain.

Operated by either a lever somewhere or a low level sensor and valve.

I had it with me and sister growing up and it worked fine.

That's my other thing I'm wondering about is the wall insulation.

Go cavity block with outside wrap.

Cavity block and kingspan sheet or pump the cavity.

If you insulate the cavity well do you still do insulated slab or is that pointless then

cavity block externally insulated would be the most expensive option cheaper option is a wide cavity fully filled with polystyrene beads a standard cavity with kingspan wont meet the building regs . and insulated slabs on new build are going the same way as the dinosaurs. as it is generally regarded as best practice to keep all your insulation in one place . best advise would be to have an engineer/arch chrunch the numbers through deap software so that you comply with the building regs.

If I was building from scratch I would be thinking along the lines of a passiv house.

Have you looked at or considered one?

go as close to passive as you can afford to and look at the ventaxia hrv system for ventillation, you can get the system from lindab in dublin
i think you would manage installation yourself

with a good airtight build and hrv the heat input you will need will be minimal.

this input can be calculated and i would do that as it could be way less than you think if passive or close is achieved

a good architectural technician familiar and experienced with passive build detailing would be well worth the spend.

    it's all in the detail

only my opinion as an observer i must say

good luck though! hope you end up with a nice comfy home and not so much stress!
