Old lad has to sell a few in the next fortnight.Mixture of animals here at present. Some are touching 2 yr olds while there is a share of yr and a halfs.
Thing is the better quality and more saleable stock are the younger group.
Im suggesting he sells the older stock for whatever he gets and feed on the better quality animals over the winter.Mainly HE and HEX
    What do ye think.

It depends , if he is like my father and thinks its grand to store them for 3 years ! I would sell the good stock now as they will probably make more for ye and finish the older ones then when it suits

Ha I thought it was only my fella that was into 36 month herefords.
Problem is like a lot of the older generation I suppose that its not about the money with them anymore as they have their living earned and its more a way of life now.
If he had his way he would keep them all for the winter.

Haha , my lad would only be getting friendly with them at 36 months ! The quieter they are the longer they get to stay with him !

Yeah know a lad a couple of miles away that does the same, like pets they are, this time of the year he lets them out for a few hrs during the day, even during the summer if they were giving serious heavy rain for a day or two he would bring them in :)

Well he sent 10 to mart yesterday.
Did alright I suppose. HEX's at around 30 months weighed in at 490 kg and made 895 so with them ok to kill up to 36 months they should leave the buyer enough time to make a decent return on em.
Had 2 very average CHX at almost 27 months weigh in at 450kg that made 780.
But I suppose when you have quality you'll get the better prices. He took a younger AAX that was 21 months and weighed 610kg (couldn't believe the weight) and got 1180
Fierce happy with himself on that lad as he had only bought him at the start of May for 840.
Know he is talking about talking a few more. As said in the original post the younger stock were far better stock.

If I was buying I think I have a better chance of making money off the older stock. That herefordat 490kgs wold be easy to finish by june if got to grass in February. You can draw HE bonus until 36 months. The two average CH at 450 kgs as would 780 would leave a margin as well. The 610kg AA is in finishing fast getting holding him 70 days drawing AA bonus. However there is arisk he might kill over 370kgs in 70 days time.
