Thinking about buying an old 2wd tractor up to 10k€, to do a bit of light work on a small holding BUT at times will need to go through 2 to 3 ft. of clean water on flooded road. I know nothing about tractors so need some general info. on what to look at, ie recommended make/model, will it need mods. to go through water, will any tractor go through that depth as long as air intake is above water level. Any breathers needed on axles, gearboxes? Just need to be pointed in the right direction to start looking and weighing it up.

    Thanks.

10K you say? Hmm....buy an International for 5.5 - 6.5 and spend the change on a Huuge telly and some posh boots. And they'll all roll happily through water, no bother. No need for any mods..just keep the extremities greased.

Here's one even cheaper..:) 3.5K - two tellies and fifty wellies...

Let it not get into the gear oil or back end or you'll have to change it regularly. Maybe Smth with high crop wheels?

Tail Docker. Thanks, that’s just what I needed to know. Greasing etc not a problem, well used to keeping an old Defender going !!

Kay9. Is that gear box oil & how/where would water get in ?

The gearbox/back end has to keep thin and hot oil in...it tends to be pretty good at also keeping water out...
