hi guys, looking for an attic stairs. started off looking up Stira and see their over the 400 mark. Cannot find prices for Fakro online (we installed Fakro rooflights in the attic as they had a good energy value), so I rang one or two places and their selling stairs for €90. seems a huge difference between them and likes of stira.
so looking for some recommendations - are the cheap ones as good as the likes of stira? we just need supply, have own carpenter to install

You answered your own question, buy the 90€ ones get your guy to fit.
My only advise would be to check if its insulated or not.
    Good luck.

I have a "Dolle" attic stairs and find it very good (robust construction, insulated hatch and rubber draught seals); I would prefer the wooden stairs over the aluminium ones as some of the ones I've seen seem flimsy in comparison- especially when bringing heavy stuff up and down the ladder. They are great value at under €100 and are an absolute must for any house IMO.

Purchased a Fakro about 5 years ago, easily installed, no problems whatsoever, can't compare to a straighre as I've never seen one. Suggest that you also invest in an attic tent or similar for insulation.

Cheers guys, think we will go for the Dolle wooden one - our attic is insulated so insulated trap door not a necessity but most seem to come insulated anyways. Robustness would be biggest concern as it will get alot of use - our attic is quite large and we will probably convert to games room or something down the line but for €125 - not bad compared to Stira prices.

Stira prices are, and always have been, ridiculous. Any of those doors now for less that €100 will do the job just fine. And they all seem to have the insulation strip fitted. Only difference I've seen is some are a sh1tty hardboard colour as opposed white. Agreed though,a must for any house and a huge improvement on the usual "contortionist doors" which come as standard in most 2 stories.

We just had fakro wooden stairs fit. Such good quality. Admittedly we spent 400 euro. They had to enlarge the hatch and new architraves. The hatch is insulated and the ladder is spring loaded. Delighted with it even if it did cost me a lot more than it appears it could have lol. We went with Tyrone attic stairs who were at Ideal homes. Originally we were going to go with stira but the chap at Ideal homes had zero interest in talking to me so I went with the other crowd. 3 lads came, in and out in an hour. One was upstairs, one in the van cutting and the other going up and down the stairs between the two.

That's very pricey for a supply and fit.

Word of warning too regarding companies that offer a supply and fit service- years ago I carried out a survey in a house where a folding attic stairs had been fitted by a "reputable" company (I won't mention names). The roof was a traditional cut roof (not trusses) with 16" ceiling joist centres- they cut joists to fit the door without putting in ply/ additional timbers and compromised the structural integrity of the roof as a result. The house wasn't going to fall down or anything but it just demonstrated a quick job or a lack of competence/ understanding of roof triangulation. Ask any potential installer how they will tackle the job before hiring.

i know this is an old post, but did you use a company to supply and fit ? or you buy the stairs and got a fitter?

Yeah, they're perfect for the job. Well priced, and white outer finish too.
