    Hi Folks

This is a lock on a small storage area I have. Key is lost for the dead bold (pic attached). Any idea if I can get a key for it or is there a way to remove the lock altogether

    Cheers

More than likely a Basta 2 lever. There are only (I think) 16keys ttal for that lock. Try every other key in the house. Or ask the neighbours for a loan of their keys. Unless you can access the hinges, and tap out the hinge pins, you will destroy the door trying to remove the lock. They are a pretty crappy lock, TBH, and a even the "wrong" key will occasionally open them.

Edit..... there are 16 different Basta keys. 7 are "right hand" ( there is a bend to the right in the shape of the actual key part) and 9 are left hand.

They are numbered. hand, 1,2,3,4,5,6,6a,7,8, Right hand, 9,10,11,12,13,14,14a,15.

Drill it would be easy also and a screw driver job done replace lock then.

If it's a 2-lever lock as mentioned above, bend a piece of clotheshanger or wire into a hook at the end, with the hook being about the same size as the end of a normal key, insert it into the lock and turn it like a key to unlock. Might take a couple of tries to catch the levers, but it will open pretty easily....
