I'd imagine the basics would be you have to be
    25 or over
    full no claims
full transfer over of your fully comprehensive insurance on to the car
most likely they hold your car while you have the test drive.

Sounds grand. On their tv ad it say go to the website for more info. Not much on there about a 24 hour test drive.

Your either in the market for leaf or your not .
The Leaf is very niche market car .
A few bing bongs will test drive it and even though it isn't for them will still buy it .

Other than that those that can benefit from Leaf dont need 24 hours to test drive it .
Those that do their sums and know Leaf isn't for them will also not need to test drive it for 24 hours .

So there must be interesting amount of Bing Bongs out there they want to sucker with this idea . That will probably result in temporary extra sales which will result in fast resales after 6 months to one year from the Bing bong brigade .

So if your in the market for the Leaf wait for the re sales of the bing bongs brigade to come up in the next six months and get car with interesting drop in price probably hardly used

If you test drive a Leaf you won't want to give it back !!!

I had one for two days and absolutely loved it. Electric drive has to be experienced even if you'll never buy one in the next few years. It makes an ice car seem so old.

If the Leaf meets your needs then go for it, if you have to rely on fast charging every day then I'd say you could have a problem if a fast charger is down.

I'm starting back working in Dublin again so my commute will be 85 miles in total, the Leaf will not do this at 100-130 Kph both ways.

It will however do this if you can plug in at work or use the fast chargers. The Leaf can easily do 110 miles a day with one fast charge.

The trick is work charging, I don't think they allow me to do this because when I worked there before as a contractor they said no, I'm not asking for free electricity and they own the premises and have full time electricians, all I'd need is an out door socket capable of about 10 amps, perfect for a 12 hr shift using the "granny cable" !

The problem is they thought they knew best and think that a fast charger needs to be installed so that everyone can use it, I couldn't make them see they haven't got a clue .

One thing I would advise though is if you can wait for the Kia Soul EV, it will have more range, especially winter range because it's battery can be heated.

It was independently tested in the U.S @ 25 deg C as having 100 miles range at 100 Kph, but you'd want to be at a charger at that stage. Winter driving will reduce that regardless but it still has the advantage of the heated battery.

Cold effects the battery by increasing internal resistance, preventing a full charge. I.E, if you have 20 Kwh available at 21 Deg C, you'll have 16 at 0 deg C ( guesstimate )

The Soul has 27 Kwh available out of about 30 Kwh, the Leaf has 21 out of 24 Kwh.

The soul isn't for everyone and if the Leaf meets your daily needs and you prefer it then go for it !

I asked the Kia in Airside and they said forget it the Kia electric Soul wont be sold in ROI this side of 2018 if ever .
The new range of 2015 KIA will be 50% CO2 less emissions which means 50% more Miles to the gallon or 50% less liters of fuel per 100 liters
and thats the direction Kia in ROI is going .

My families 2012 small KIA 1000 cc thing works great cheap cheerful good MPG ( very similar MPG as my 1999 Swift Suziki so modern engines propaganda its simple ~1000cc three cylinder engines dont use much fuel but never seem to be the gee whizz advertised numbers ) really you can nearly get two of the small KIA for the price of one Leaf

So its gonna be the Leaf and the Renault things and the SOUL is mere waffle and made from unobtanuim if you cjhose to live in electric backwater ROI

The Kia dealers don't know when it's coming, Kia Ireland themselves have not ruled it out but they don't know. A Dealer then told me it will probably be out in the Spring along with newer models coming.

Of course they will say anything in case you might buy something they already have in stock. I never trust dealers or sales people.

50% less Co2 and Mpg ? I'd say there's far less chance of that then the Soul EV arriving in Ireland !

My partner bought a 2008 1.6 Crdi estate and it gets about 41 mpg max, this is disgraceful and Kia were fined a fortune in the U.S for lying about their mpg figures(petrols). I'd certainly not buy a Kia after that, maybe their petrols are different but I wouldn't buy a 1.0L in a million years anyway.

If I were possibly buying an e.v I'd wait to see if it arrives or not, there is no basis what so ever for this statement "not coming to Ireland"

Ah Mad Lad, have you not encountered Derry before??
Add to ignore list. You'll never get the time back you spend reading his essays/posts.

Anyway, on topic, drove a leaf for half an hour and I want one badly! If I had it for 24 hours I wouldn't give it back

Lol I have encountered him before :D

I didn't want to give the Leaf back either, The only thing stopping me getting one on 2015 would be whether I can tolerate a 10 min daily QC at Naas after a shift. Work charging would be brilliant.

My commute is short so I'm seriously considering importing one used from the UK.
They won't suit everyone but the tick nearly all the boxes for me.

If you're commute is short then a Mk I leaf should be good for years. That's a significant advantage. unfortunately for me 84 miles a day is what I need, or will need when I start working again in Dublin on Monday.

Do you think the basic model is good enough or should I try to get one with cruise, heated seats and the touch screen?

If you mean the newer MK 1.5 then I'd say at least the SV that will come with the touch screen and remote activation of heat /AC and charging and the much more efficient heat pump.

The highest spec is always nice.
