    Hi
The memory of my laptop is wiped clean after a switch was tripped in my house. Since the switch tripped the laptop is still working for internet, but the laptop is wiped clean just like a brand new computer. Microsoft Office is still installed, but all my files, folders, pictures, music etc is all gone, is there any realistic hope that they can be retrieved.

Does PC world still fix laptops instore without sending them away

Note that every time you restart windows and look around, mess around with it, it could possibly lose data that would otherwise still be intact.
    recuva seems decent.

There may likely be a list of restore points/time that you could you revert the system to a point before the power loss. Thereby 'hopefully' restoring all your data to that point in time before the power loss.

Something sounds very wrong with your story...if it was wiped...you would not be able to get into the laptop at all.

Open my computer, click on C:\, then click on Users, and see if you see your name in there, or any name which looks familiar, click into it and browse around.

Or, you could click on the start button and search for *.mp3, or *.jpg and see if any images/music appears after a while.

A power trip will not cause the laptop to go back to factory settings imo, it sounds to me like it was a coincidence, and that perhaps the user profile is corrupt.

You are right. The computer is wiped clean but my name is still setup as the user. when I searched for particular documents they are there. Thank you

It is possible to fix this and get back to where you were before all this happened. Google Windows 7 corrupt profile, and see if you can find a fix. Of course, if you're happy to just move all the files to the new profile then that works too!

    Glad to help!
