This is coming up soon and so if anybody has any tips for it, then that would be great.
I had a look at the few sample questions posted on blackboard and after a bit of study, they seem ok.
Overall what's the exam like? is it cnutish?
does the same stuff come up year after year? ie, read the readings from vernier and micrometer?

Is there many calculation questions or is excel used during the exam.
It's open book but that's not much use when you havnt a fooking clue what's in the folder.

Tbh, ive enjoyed the wiley plus easy enough and the lectures are great but the labs have been a disaster for me. I havnt a clue inside tbh and i am wondering how i'll pass this stupid lab exam.

I'm in 3rd science in NUIG this year. I did 1st year physics 2 years ago :) I had Mark Lang! He the cool man! See your physics lab book for a marks breakdown of calculation of final end-of-year PH101 grade. It probably hasn't changed since I did it. WileyPlus is 10% of the module grade. Christmas and summer exam both worth 30% each. So that now totals 70%. The other 30% is probably the labs. If I can remember exactly 5% semester 1 lab exam and 5% lab book. And 10% lab write up semester 2 and 5% lab book semester 2 stuff + remaining 5% for clicker participation in lectures! = marks for each component added together to give your final end-of-year PH101 grade. Hope this helps!

So basically lab exam semester 1 only 5%. And all the wileyplus you do in the whole year is only 10%. 2nd and 3rd year get harder. I wish I had enjoyed 1st year more and not worked so much. (I remember in 1st year I spent ages on wiley plus trying to get every question right, its not worth it - its only 10% of the module grade) The lab stuff and the 2 written papers are worth ~75% of the module. Better to spend time on these parts.

Enjoy 1st year, don't spend all the time working!

Lab exam usually hard. But they're not worth much. There's usually a few easy questions about vernier callipers and micrometer screw gauge and maybe LoggerPro (have you used that software yet??)That's how I managed to get ~3/5 in the lab exams. I got a high B grade in physics in 1st year (68%). Don't worry. There's no such thing as "failing" the lab exam. It's only the final end-of-year module grade that counts. As long as you pass the PH101 module overall that is all that matters.

If you have any questions about anything else, or anything 1st year science related PM me (I did BO101, CH101, PH101 and MA161 in 1st year).

    hey,

thanks for the reply. Yeah i have the cool mr. lang for lectures too :)

They have changed it around a bit id say in the two years gone by.
lab exam sem 1 worth 7.5% and same again in sem 2 for a total 15%. We were told you have to pass the lab exam to pass the module overall, regardless of what you do in exams and the rest.
So, 30% for sem 1 exam and same for sem 2.
    15% for total lab exams
    10% lab folder
    10% for wiley
    5% for clickers

    kinda suky really
