If anyone was thinking of buying a knock off frame from China, Wilier purchased a Cento 1 SR frame from Aliexpress and tested it side by side with one of their own genuine frames. Here's the results.
I'm not an engineer , maybe someone with more technical knowledge will take more from it but there does seem to be some fairly glaring differences.

There is no doubt that it isn't as strong, but unless the tests are done by a completely independent 3rd party body i'd take the results with a pinch of salt. There is a few things like this done for all sorts of products that have been copied by the Chinese, comparing their product to the Chinese, but most that I have seen seem to be done by the company themselves.

Most recent one was a bearing company comparing their own bearings to the Chinese version, while there is no doubt the Chinese one will be a bit inferior and made of fine grade Chinesium the test was obviously staged with the race removed from their own bearing so it will spin for longer. ARB did the same with comparing their air locker to the Chinese version.

the mould that makes your knock off frame used to make your legit frame before it was discarded, mate of mine lived in china for years and investigated this very issue

Said mould was layed up by experts with quality materials before it was discarded.

A single sample can hardly be considered representative either.

The English used in that document makes me think it's a fake :P

I have a Chinese carbon mtb hardtail frame. (with Scott decals I put on myself).
I've been doing real world testing on it for a number of years and it's still perfect.

Aah, I know it's always going to biased because of the testing being carried out by the manafacturer and it's hardly a comprehensive study. It's just interesting to see what the results were like.

In real world terms, what kind of impact would generate the breaking stresses needed to crack the steerer ? Is 3795 N the kind of force generated by a 75 kg man hitting a 50mm deep pothole at 40kmh? (can that even be accurately calculated??)
Would it be that obvious that your BB stiffness was 190N/mm as opposed to 220N/mm? Any engineers here to give an opinion?

Was your frame sold as a copy of a branded frame or is it an original Chinese model?

Mine was an unbranded frame, not sold as a copy.
Has taken more punishment than any road frame will ever see.

Would they have published the results if the counterfeit frame did better?
