Damaged laptop power socket

    Hi all,

I was hoping that someone may be able to help me. My girlfriend managed to damage the power socket on her Samsung series 5 ultrabook. Fortunately the DC jack itself is fine, I stripped down the laptop to see if it needed to be replaced and it's all good.

However, the socket for the jack has somehow become chipped so that the charger jack no longer will stay snugly in the socket. I have been trying to find somewhere to buy a replacement part but no joy. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to fabricate or replace this section of a laptop case? The shell itself is aluminum, but this section is plastic. I've attached a photo showing what I mean.

There was a lifehack somewhere that involved magnets...can't find it. But this image might give you an idea?

Hmm, that's an idea. I think that I found the article you're talking about here.

Unfortunately I don't think that will work in this case as the power socket is at the very end of the back edge of the laptop, so the magnets would end up extruding past the back. It's worth thinking about though. Perhaps I could print a new plastic part or it.
