That's a good recommendation, seems spot on for the money.

Of course - it wont be capable of playing games (intel graphics)
and using MS Office on it with the huge ribbon UI will be like editing a document through a letterbox (Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels)

Seems perfect for the OP. If you can find a better laptop for the price then post it up, I'd be interested too.

Just pointing out why its cheap-

If its for a non- techie for web and skype- consider a tablet, especially an ipad or mini- it will get you out of a lifetime of tech support...

Or if you really want to use win8- a touch screen will save you having to explain charms menus and keyboard shortcuts etc.

Heres a nice one ive used for around 200 euros

They've put back the start button in the updates
    or install classic shell

Yeah - Classic Shell is great - I use it on all the 8 machines I use. (And even on 7 to fix the Explorer Scroll Bug that MS refused to fix in 7 but fixed in 8.)

the 8.1 start menu isnt very good - waiting for the Windows 10 one and hoping its better....

That Toshiba is very nice though - touch screen works well with the UI and powerful enough that it ran minecraft pretty well - only thing is that you cannot charge it and use a keyboard at the same time should you wish to
(without making a special cable or hub).
