Problem sharpening eyeliner pencil

I've had trouble with pencil eyeliners.

(I normally use liquid eyeliner but the odd occasion, I'll switch to pencil)
So I buy a new pencil. It's nice and sharp and pointed.
The time comes to sharpen it so I get out my sharpener. And it peels away and then the new eyeliner bit breaks off.

So I try again. Each time I create a new bit, it falls off.
I've tried putting the pencil in the fridge/freezer, but I find that makes it worse.

How on Earth do you sharpen pencils to get a point without it breaking off?!

Could be just a crappy sharpener. No.7 do a good one for a couple of quid. The best sharpener I ever had came with a Bobbi Brown eyeliner but I'm sure they sell them separately.

They do, I got one less than a year ago with an eyeliner. The sharpener is brilliant, well worth getting one.

Put the eyeliner in the freezer for 15 minutes before you sharpen it.

I use the bigger sharpener that you would use for a jumbo pencil, and keep the pencil angled so the side of the nib is pressing firmly against the blade at an angle if that makes sense. IN that way you are doing it bit by bit and getting a nice angled slice to get a good sharp tip.

I used to have that problem til I bought an Essence one in Penney's, never a problem sharpening now. Try not to push the pencil in too far when sharpening as that definitely breaks the tip and stops it forming a proper point.

I always leave my eyeliner in the fridge it won't break that way.

Dior do fantastic sharpeners (that come free with the pencils) - might be worth a "treat" eyeliner purchase just to get a good sharpener - long term investment!

I already stated putting them in the fridge/freezer didn't work for me?!

Anyway thanks for the suggestions everyone..I'll invest in a good sharpener :)
