    Hi, I'm looking to make up a Christmas Hamper as a gift.

    I'm looking for advise as to what to buy to put in it as I'm not making anything at home!

    I'm thinking of

    Selection of three cheeses with crackers,
    Irish smoked salmon,
    Mince Pies
    Christmas Pudding
    A tin of biscuits
    A tin of chocolates

    Any other ideas please?

    Hi , not sure how helpful this will be but I do up gift hampers nearly every year and a few things that's I have learned are;

    • gift baskets and hampers, if they are for someone close to you, are better if they are personalised. For instance my dad gets one made up with just a bottle of baileys, truffles, liquor chocs etc all the things he likes, my sis and mam also get a Xmas mug/personalised mug with Xmas slipper socks and a hot choc/sweets, and separately a basket with sweets

    • for neighbours I do make a few items but I have found more traditional pieces such as the proper Turkish delights, or shortbread biscuits , anything cinomen scented etc, or putting pine cones in the basket around the actual items makes it look more Christmassy ! Also gingerbread men if there are kiddies involved!

    You wil find tesco, lidl and tk maxx (my fav) will do an array of unusual christmas themed treats and sweets!

    Ps don't shy away from themed food hampers either, for instance this year my OH is getting a gift hamper filled with American styled sweets such as twinkies and cherry cola (I no ... But he loves them !)

    Best of luck and have fun doing them!

    Pine cones, yes! And some adults like gingerbread too :)

    It's true, personalise if possible. Gorgeous plum jams and fruit conserves have always worked well for me.

    Sounds like you have it all under control but you could add:
    A bottle of wine or prosecco, or a non alcohol drink like shloer (cant spell) or individual bottles of curiosity cola. A pack of after eights or ferrero rocher!! Lidl/Aldi do nice mints in place of after eights. a nice pate could go well with the crackers/salmon.
