Hi, sorry to ask a basic 'internet101' question regarding Google Play, but everytime I open the app or try to get into the website online and sign in, it tries to sign me up for a subscription ('free trial').

So what exactly is Google Play? I assumed it's like iTunes so you can buy music? Or is it a combination of iTunes and Spotify/subscription?

Is it possible to just buy albums and/or get these free ones? HDUK have so many cheap album offers on Google Play UK that are not reduced on the Irish site :-(

Google Play is an app that is install in all Android phones. If its not apparent on your phone, it might be hiding behind a Google palatte. If you're on IOS, tough titty.

Yes, I'm on iOS. I'm Apple to the Core ��. So while my 'high spec' phone does have the Google Play app, and I'm signed in as my Google name, I have to sign up for a free trial to even open a Google Play account. This is also the case with my 'high spec' tablet. Fair enough if they want a credit card/paypal but I don't want a subscription. If I had a lower spec phone/tablet/pc, then I would be able to use Google Play like iTunes without signing up to a subscription?

With the launch of Music Key, Google music coupled with videos on Youtube, the €7.99 introduction price will be amazing value.

One can upload 20,000 of your own songs to fill the music that is not available on GPMAA.

Spec has nothing to do with it.

The way it works on Android is you can have a free account with up to 20,000 of your own songs that you upload.

For the all access service, you pay €9.99 at the minute but as i said above the new Key service google is launching will be €7.99 per month for a while AFAIK. I assume it works the same way on iOS

You've answered my question though. The iOS app/interface doesn't offer a free option so. The Key subscription looks interesting though.

Maybe use a for Irony.

When you go to play.google.com/music, do you not have the option to upload songs? Maybe listening to the uploaded songs on the app is just for Android phones though, not sure.

I did use the smiley face icon (that'll be the two rectangles in my original post) but there was an iOS vs Android conflict from the outset (*smiley face*).

I can't get past the 'sign up for Google Play music account plus forced free trial then subscription'. But no matter. Thanks anyway.

I'm also not able to get by the free trial screen on either my android devices. Works fine on the website though.

Odd, I get the option to just use standard. (I have used my trial before, but it still prompts me for the subscription. Would think it would let you not use the trial)
