Headphone Port Crackling - Motherboard Problem?

    Howaya lads,

Some of you may remember me talking about inheriting a rig from a friend.
Well I got it and it's running grand apart from one little issue.

I can use the audio port on the back grand, I have a set of speakers hooked up to it but whenever I try to use the port on the front I get a load of god awful crackling and static. I've tried multiple pair of headphones so the problem definitely lies with the computer.

What I was wondering was because the audio is grand from one port but not another is it just a loose wire or would it be something bigger?

Sorry if I've left anything out, this is my first real dive into computer hardware bar replacing a few sticks of RAM.

    Cheers :)

It could be a dud cable or loose header, trace it back to the motherboard. Jack could also be wrecked it it was used a lot.

If there's nothing obvious just get a 1m female to male 3.5mm cable and use it to connect your headphones and speakers fmising the back port without the hassle.

Probably the front port on the case is dodgy. Have the same issue myself here so I have to use the mic in port at the front and set it up as headphones port.
