Tegral Slate Problems

Hi all, apologies if I don't post on here correctly but I'm looking for some advice/support.
I am having a lot of trouble with Tegral Thrutone slates. Our house is only 5 years old and the slates are not only white in places but there are indentations in the slates and curling.
My husband is a roofer and disgusted that out roof is in this condition.
I have read posts here but they go back a few years -is there anyone dealing with the company now?
We have been trying to resolve the issue with Tegral now for almost 2 years!!They want to paint our roof but we are not happy with this and feel that the product is not of a good quality - we have sent samples and surprise surprise they passed their test! One slate we sent to get tested actually had a hole and hairline crack in the slate!
We are about to go to court with this company as we have had enough......

    Any thoughts??

We are about to issue a 21 day summons which will see our case probably go to the district courts!

-snip- no longer stock these Tegral slates due to the hassle. Think the slates that were manufactured in early to mid 2000s were the problem.

Afaik Tegral paid out for the first customers with problems but it complaints became very commonplace. Chiefly slates losing their colour abd/or the corners if the slates turning up.

OP. Is there not a 10yr guarantee or something like that?

In that case I suggest people who have had similar problems might send you a PM (private message)

I think you're right - there must be a lot of unhappy Tegral slate owners in the country. Bad sign if shops are not stocking an Irish product due to quality and complaints.

We are so fed up that we are prepared to see it's course now..... How can quality be a question after 5 years?! V frustrating!

There is a guarantee for colour fade think 25 years? I wish colour was only the problem.... painting over exposed cement fibres is not a solution we are happy with!

I have just gone and got a 1000 euro's worth of Tegral roofing tiles.... Is that looking to be a bad buy or is it just older slates that its applied to?

I'm meeting with a tegral rep tomorrow to finalize the slates for my roof. I'll be probing him further on this issue.

In similar situation and the case has been going on over 2 years now. Like that we are going to go to court with them. Have had them "test" them but its laughable that they passed.

I am looking for independent testers for these, but they are costing a fortune to get done which is a risk.

I wouldn't buy any slates from Tegral based on the terrible condition of our roof and also their incredible attitude to those with the problems and complete ignoring of the 30 year warranty.

These threads are the reason I went with a different supplier.

Hi guys, looking for advice here. we are at roof level on a self build.we have a curved roof, the engineer spec'd Tegral slate but builder has just told us that when he trims the slate for the curve, a white "rim" will appear on the tile after a while. He has spoken to the Tegral rep who told him to give it a rub of sandpaper after he cuts the tile. The builder said that he doesn't believe him. Any one ever used these on a curved roof where they need to be cut?

Our roof isn't curved and its a shambles, I won't let tegral near my roof and definitely don't believe a word they say unless you get a written guarantee that if their suggestion doesn't work they will fund a full replacement. That said they aren't even backing up their own guarantee so isn't worth the paper its wrote on.

    Hi Tired
I have exactly the same problem with these slates, they have offered me the same,
repaint the whole roof which I didn't accept now they want me to send them one of the slates so they can have it tested!
How have you progresssed out since your last post?

Over 2 years into this and getting no where. Not looking like I will get replaced and I can't afford to fight them in the court. Really really poor show and no one to back up the consumer.

That's the reason I stopped specifing their products completely.

Slates cupping badly, discoloured slates, porous slates, brittle slates, all on the one roof! Tegral man made (not natural slate) . My own Engineer tells me that they will not last another winter. Rep from Tegral called and took one slate away to carry out tests. 3 weeks later when I contacted the company again they informed me that they could Not carry out a test as the slate contained Aspestos! They then informed me by letter that the roof had Minor problems and "not a cause for concern" Wow!! I am now in the process of stripping the entire roof and will let Solicitors deal with this Company. Stay away from Tegral!!!

Sad to say about an Irish Company in the current climate.

They won't pay up on them though, been there, heading for 2.5 years fighting them and solititors fought them and lost.

Either that or paint them and painting is a farce

Have a similar problem in Kerry. On the north facing roof ALL of the slates have turned white/stained and look terrible. However on the south side the slates look perfect. Why would this be the case? Only reason I can find is maybe condensation?

Ya my roof is a mess too. Tegral tries putting me off and in the end they sent out a engineer to inspect my roof. No report back as of yet but im sure this report will back up tegral. What a mess.

s far as I can see multiple people are having serious problems with Tegral! I am in the process of changing my entire roof. Tegral Truetone were porous and breaking up. On removal several battons were wet. No satisfaction from Tegral whatsoever. I will be going all the way with them as their product is CRAP!!!
