New Passat or...

Hi, I'm seriously thinking about replacing my old 07 Passat 2.0Tdi Highline with the new model 2015 2.0 150bhp Highline. VW are offering very good PCP for the higher spec cars (1.9%) so it's a no brainer to go for a highline. I will hold onto the car for longer than 3 years so the mileage won't affect me.
    Also, I've been driving a 140bhp 2.0 litre so I couldn't see myself going for a 1.6Tdi.
Does anyone have any opinions on the new Passat?
I've also looked online at the A4 and there isn't a huge difference in price but I see there is a new A4 due out next year.
Is there anything else I should be looking at? I need diesel, a bit of comfort, I like high spec and I do 30,000km per year maybe more.

Can't say I'm a fan of the new Mazda's. They look very american - a bit like a modern take on an American muscle car.

New Mondeo Titanium? Have sat in one, very classy interior, 7 or 8 inch infotainment screen. Didn't drive it so can't comment on performance.

Depends what suits you I suppose, the Passat's styling would definitely be less radical and more subdued.

Right, I've decided to go for the new Passat. The new A4 and Skoda Superb won't be out for another year and there's nothing else floating my boat. The new Mondeo looks well but I always think the interiors are a bit plasticy.
The only downside is that the new Passat is not arriving into the garages until the new year. There are a few LHD cars doing the rounds of the dealers over the next 3 or 4 weeks but apparantly they can't be driven. I'll go along for a look anyway because I'd like to see it in the flesh and I'm keen to see what the Highline looks like with the 17's. All the publicity photo's have the cars with 18's. I'm going to go for the 2.0Tdi Highline with the Crimson Red Metallic.
Is anyone else looking at the Passat for 2015?

I'm due a change in 2016 and already I've pretty well narrowed it down to either the new Passat in Highline or the new Audi A4 SE. A4 is a long way out but should be available by the time I'm due to change. The new Passat, even if only slightly different externally, should be a pretty nice car, esp. in Highline trim.

Let us know when you order your Passat..... engine, trim level, colour, wheels etc.

    Hi tippman,
I did the deal today... Passat 2.0Tdi 150bhp in Highline trim. I went for the new Crimson Red Metallic with the cream half leather half alcantara. No extras and the standard London 17 inch Alloys.

You mentioned that vw are doing excellent pcp deals on the higher spec. I did see that in the brochure, pretty much same deposit and same monthly repayment with the final payment being higher to account for the difference with maybe some interest saving too.
This is all well and good but in your case where you state that you intend to keep the car, buying the highline is not such a no brainer as the higher cost is just being pushed down the road to year 3 onwards.
Obviously if you want a highline and are prepared to pay for a highline, thats your business but the PCP figures dont show the true picture.

Just been in my local dealers and they had two of the new passats on display. Its quite a bit bigger than the previous version. I really like it. I sat into the estate version and it was the 200 ps 4motion dsg with all the bells and whistles. Should have snapped a picture. The TT instrument cluster is a really interesting addition.
Well wear with your purchase Donie.

The lower PCP on the Highline actually means that the difference in total cost inc finance is minimal to upgrade from Comfortline & well worth it. With Passat a new model I can't really understand why VW are engaging this strategy though, typically the higher spec models yield more margin for them, but they seem to be giving the margin away with the interest rate cut- its not like they will have a massive stock of Highline's sitting around

They might be playing a long game, even in Ireland more people than ever before want cars with a bit of spec. If you look at Mondeos and Focuses for example, most are Zetec or better now. Granted, Irish Zetec spec is rather watered down compared to UK Zetec spec, but still, it's progress. Not too long ago everyone bought the poverty spec LX model (and again, Irish spec LX was worse than UK spec LX - for example in the Mk2 Focus UK spec LXs had a/c, Irish ones didn't). I guess the thinking is if they make it cheap (relatively speaking) to upgrade now, then in 3-4 years time if the customer is happy and wants another Passat he or she is automatically going to ask for a Highline again for the spec and won't want to drop back to Comfortline, so they'll be able to charge the full price for upgrading the next time. Also, if they shift enough Highlines now and there's plenty of them available second-hand, then second-hand buyers will be most interested in that model over the lower specs so dealers will give better trade ins as they'll be easier to shift, thus meaning owners will be able to recoup some of their extra investment, which will again persuade customers to buy a high spec the time after next, as people love being told their car is worth more money to the point they will spend more to trade up in return for being told their existing pride and joy is worth a bit more and get a worse overall deal for themselves.

Hi people, what do you reckon a 2013(1) Passat edition R would be selling for once January comes concerning the new Passat will be out. At present the one i seen is 25,500 (is this over priced?). Its got 41,500 km on the clock. sure it should come down a fair bit in January?
