JobBridge transition, first month pay?

I've been offered a job after completing a JobBridge program, with the contract starting the final week of November. I'll be getting paid monthly, with my first real payday due for the 25th December...that leaves me 4 weeks with zero income, going from a final €150 weekly JobBridge payment to a 4 week dry run. Not ideal with Christmas coming up.

I'm pretty sure my employer won't have a problem sorting something out for me, but what's a reasonable expectation in my position? Is there a common way things like this are usually dealt with?

If you started on the first week of november why is your first pay day on December 25th? are they making you work a back month?

He said he's starting on 'the final week of november'.

The fact that you're coming off JoBridge is irrelevant - it's the same for any person moving from the dole to a job.

Standard answer is to get a loan from family or your local Credit Union. There is no government scheme to help you transition.

It's a real pain in the ass, I'd just talk to them about it and see if they can do anything. A month with no money and bills is a fairly **** thing to do when starting a job.

Thankfully it is very relevant, as after 9 months with the company they're willing to help me out a little. Nowhere in my post did I ask about receiving money from anybody other than my employer, so not quite sure how you came to that conclusion.

I'm asking what I can reasonably expect from my employer, from anybody who has been in a similar situation. I'd hope to get 2 weeks up front for this first month, but I don't want to come across the wrong way.

you'll never know if you don't ask your employer. if you've got a good relationship with them already they might be very accommodating. Also, alot of companies which have pay dates on or about 25th Dec pay a few days early so it mightn't be that bad for you. secondly, any advance you do get, will leave your january wages short so you'll need to be careful.

Ask can you be paid weekly or bi weekly for the first month to adjust and just mention money's fairly tight for you as you've been on jobbridge.

I wouldn't go asking for an advance myself though.

Thanks CatFromHue, I think asking for weekly/bi-weekly for first month is the best option alright, I'll see what is said tomorrow.
