Another ram question - does size matter?

Sponged 20 ewes and put them to rams today. Had to split them up

Big pb Charlie was put with 11 2 yr old pb Charlie ewes

7 big mixed breed ewe lambs were put in a field with three Charlie / beltex x ram lambs

2 Charlie / beltex x ewe lambs were put with two scrawny ram lambs that I bought as pets back in February / march

The big boy got stuck in straight away and the ewes came to him and huddled waiting for their turn

The 3 ram lambs showed interest and I'm hopeful that they will do the job

The two scrawny yokes don't seem anyway interested - I had them together in a pen when separating them and no sniffing or any obvious signs that they will do any work. I don't want to put these with the big fella and the three other rams are half brothers so the two scrawny boys were expected to do just one each....

They are healthy enough but maybe a bit light - I didn't weigh them but would guess about 40kgs. One is Dorset and not sure what mix other one is... Are they too light to be active?

    Thanks

I let out a nz Suffolk X belclare ram lamb about 30 kg to get the ewes cycling and in 48 hrs he tipped about 8 and all held bar 1 or 2 so size shouldn't matter too much.

Not so much size as health. Chances are the big ram is in better order than the two skinny ram lambs. Im sure if he was thin too, it would knock back his performance, no matter how big an animal he is.

I saw one of the little fellas doing a bit of sniffing yesterday so hope he managed to follow his instincts and do his manly business!
