Has no one thought of the trauma suffered by the bird's family?

They were probably migrating birds and shouldn't have been there in the first place.

All joking aside, why would this not have been a mayday and diversion? Or is it that the DM shockingly haven't gotten their facts wrong?

Propeller destroyed by bird... Or bird destroyed by propeller? This is why I don't like the DM... don't give them the time of day.

To be fair, if they did shut down the engine, the skipper better have a good reason for overflying suitable airports. The authorities frown on that kind of thing.

As a passenger on this flight I feel I must refute the story of horror and terrified passengers as utter crap.Everyone was calm and the crew were excellent. What Dan failed to say was that captain announced that the best weather in the south of England at the time was Birmingham so we would continue with an on time arrival.Having just left Guernsey with a strong crosswind and wet runway with turbulence in the climb even Dan should have known it would not be a good idea to return with just one engine.Well done the captain and crew!

LOl. Dispatcher Dan has a great imagination and a serious case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Sure it's not even like the engine was out of commission. They turned it off because of the extra vibration. If the other engine went they could restart the one with the missing prop cone and land safely albeit with a bit of extra vibration. Even as someone with literally zero aviation knowledge I would have thought that was obvious, but of course it doesn't make a good 'mid air terror' type headline.

and another comment from that article ...
I was on the flight and this article is a load of rubbish. Everyone was completely calm, a massive exaggeration by the daily mail.

Dan has done his career very little favours with his sensationalist claims and mis-information. As an aircraft dispatcher he should no better. I mean he has claimed in that article that the pilots must have continued to Birmingham because they wanted to get home. This is a guy who has to go back to working closely with pilots after his holiday. It's a very small world in the aviation industry.
Someone made a point about the weather in Birmingham being the best of all southern England at the time but the photos show that it was very wet there too. I am a little surprised that the decision to continue was made. But hey, captain knew best and aircraft landed safely so all's well that ends well!

I think wind was a factor here, Dash is quite bad in crosswinds (15kt at Guernsey that morning). If the runway is contaminated (standing water, ice etc) it's max crosswind goes down from 32 to rather pathetic 14kt. and that's with both engines running. I could not find what's the performance with only one engine running, I imagine if it's already trimmed for one engine operations, max crosswind limit goes down even further. Any dash drivers around can confirm this?
