Sore throat after nearly choking, how to soothe it?

Hi guys, I've no idea if this is the correct forum for this so mods feel free to move it.

My dad almost choked on a chicken bone the other day and managed to retch it up. Now his throat is very sore when he swallows. I'm not looking for medical advice here, if it's still bad in a day or so he'll go to the doctor. I'm wondering does anyone have any suggestions on how to soothe it? I keep recommending he swallow a spoonful of honey but he refuses cos he hates honey! He's been resolutely gargling salty water even though he admits himself the pain is too far down for it to help

He might need to go see his GP, OP cos it sounds like the bone might have cut his throat.

Only thing you can really do is suck lozenges, try and get him to have teaspoons of honey or even honey and lemon in hot water.
Honey will lubricate the area but listen, if it's very sore, be no harm going to the GP.
