The wheel that goes into the drop out so you can run the chain while the rear wheel / cassette are off the bike?

I've googled all combinations of what my little brain can come up with but can't find one online.

And if you check youtube they will show you how to make one using an empty Plumbers tape spool

I want one. But when do I use it?

Only use I can think of is when you're lying the bike flat in a car boot.

Very handy when cleaning your bike.

I normally clean the chain with the rear wheel still mounted. I'll either clean the stays with wheel in place or else lift the (by now clean) chain off the stay while I clean it. Hence not sure of the benefits of this tool. What am I missing?

This is how I clean my bikes..

I find it much easier to clean the bike with the wheels removed and the chain is free to move without touching the frame.

After reading one of the threads last month on bike cleaning I did exactly this , making the chain keep , removing the wheels and giving the bike a thorough cleaning . I even constructed a makeshift bike rack using an old TV wall bracket .
But I ended up using too much degreaser and stripped the grease out of the front wheel bearings .
The good thing is I then took the wheel apart and re-greased the bearings ,something I never would have attempted prior to joining this forum.
One of the first things everyone advises is to do your own maintenance and learn from it .
