    Hi,

Dishwasher (6 year old) over last week or two was starting to make a gurgling noise as if the spray heads weren't working properly or something similar.

last night during a wash, an electrical smell was evident.
powered off and checked this morning.
all the pumps seem fine - spin ok and no smell from them.

what was damaged was the "safety switch".
This is the part on partsmaster - here.
This is the exact part that has electrical damage - blackness around contacts.

question - what does this do ? can't seem to find out any info on it.
is there something else causing this to go ?

    thanks

    K

Blackness around the contacts is more an indication of a loose connection, check the tightness and try again.
Is it possible to upload a photo of the damage.

    hi

not a great photo but shows the black marks around the contacts

    what does this part do.
it's a e15 replacement but want to find out if this fault is because of another issue.

    thx

Looks like the switch overheated, I don't know what would cause that apart from the switch itself being faulty.
If so then replacing it will solve the problems.
    Maybe others can comment.

do you know what it does ? it's called a "safety switch" but googling that just brings up the door switch.
looks likes it's linked to the water supply channel inside the unit.

any tips on it's removal ? done from the back or from inside?
    Thanks again.

Don't know tbh, could be a water pressure switch.

I'll change it out so and see if that fixes it.

its a safety device on the heater circuit ,the heating element actually runs up the back of machine, if the unit is closed circuit clean up the contact and re tag the wire, see if it heats you can get a replacement from exsparetise in tullamore if needed

so got the part eventually from Hoover.
it is indeed a screw on device with two electrical connections.

did a first trial wash and all was fine.

but now - it seems to start mid-cycle and only wash in cold water.
The plates come out clean - washed with cold water - but cutlery with say butter on a knife will remain dirty.

is there a reset I need to do or is the heater element gone - and hence the switch went because of this. any other options to try.

    Thx

take the white plastic cover located centre back off, remove the leads from the element and test it for continuity ( you will need a multimeter) if it is open circuit it will need replacing, otherwise you will have to trace the two leads back to the pcb and see if there are any breaks, if there are any it is most likely to be at the bottom edge of the door, if all reads ok the pcb isn't doing its job.

Super - have a multi-meter, and will do that first thing and report back.

    Thx
