    It's possible alright.

    A character in Emmerdale was announced dead from drowning recently. ITV put it on their site and the actor himself confirmed it, and expressed what a great time he had working on the show etc. - Turns out he wasn't dead at all.

    Without absolute confirmation of these things, you can never say for sure. Personally, I think he could still be alive if they decide to air a sixth season (it seems to be up in the air at the moment). I think the episode was designed to lead us to belive Nidge is dead in case that was the last ever episode. It would be a bit ridiculous if he managed to survive, but I suppose stranger things have happened.
