I'm thinking of getting a new driver and I think I've settled on the 913 d2. Just wondering would someone on here have any idea will it drop much in price once the 915 is released. Or would you be as well wait till after Christmas for better value but then should I be worried about availability. Prefer to buy new.

It already dropped in price to about €280 for the last few months. Anything less is bargaining on the day in the shop. IMO, it wont drop much lower but slight better pricing is available on eBay. The new drivers are out next week. The old stock may not last long but I'd say there will be still possible to pick up one somewhere in the new year (including at some random pro shops).

They've dropped as much as they are going to drop at this stage.

See them today for 140 . As good as new.

Great price. I'd say you'll get them at 100 2nd hand.

The price of new club is absolutely daft.

couldn't care who you are or how low you are.

I was told . No point in 913 over 910 ? would have got one.

    Got a 913 h for 100 quid.

Test clubs in Kinsealy . Some hardly hit.
    Can't see them last.

You'll also pick plenty up in 2nd hand soon enough.

That's a cracking deal - are they the ones with "demo" on the grips? I bought some Titleist hybrids a few years ago for cheap in the same shop

Thats a serious price, they're still making 200+ on adverts

I bought my own new but on a good deal on the trade in.

I find it more forgiving off center and much prefer the shaft in it over the 910 w/kuro kage

But how can an out of date club. 3 years old. Technology totally bypassed be considered even worth over 100 quid.

Will get one under 100 quid when 2nd hand 915 come out.

    On 910 v 913. Crossfield couldn't register a difference.

    915 a new animal.

But load of balls when clubs start hitting 400 mark.

The same could be said for a lot of drivers (RBZ v RBZ S2, Xhot V X2hot etc) but for me it was only a little more to get the entire new club rather than the shaft I wanted.

The 910 D2 (more so than the D3) on average are bringing about 100-120 so I can't see the 913 dropping that much. The 915 will be 450 IIRC so most will still pay 200 odd.

As for crossfield, I love his course vlogs but don't like his reviews. They can be biased ( thankfully not so much anymore) but more than that he hits everything the same and dismisses every technological advancement out of hand, to a point where he doesn't even test the selling points on some.

Remember the SLDR he dismissed in his first review only for TM to bring him to the fitting centre, gain him more yardage and he has used one since.

I understand nearly all new clubs are very close in terms of performance but we/ I do hit them different. I watch rick shiels for club reviews, a bit more lively and he's willing to put the clubs claims to the test.

Thanks for your thoughts lads, think I'll take a week or two and see then. Maybe I'll go second hand.

What's the story with the 915? Is it a big change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,238 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Yes big change - they have gone for a club that bring them more into the general golfer range. With more forgiveness - basically this club is better reducing spin and for off centre hits using active recoil technology - yes they have words that are great for marketing - but this is a change for them from the old reliable 910 - 913 idea.

    Still incredible price.

429 euro - then are lads going to pay extra for a shaft ?

It's all about their new "Active Recoil Channel" technology.

Not sure what that is, possibly a stretch of a Sea (Channel) that you'll jump into in horror (Recoil) when you've realised you've paid €430 and can't hit it any better or worse than the last one. :)

Look I'm as daft as anybody when it comes to spending money on golf.

But over 400 quid . Not to mention fittings and going outside standard grip and shaft.

    come on lads.

Agreed, the cost is v. high. At least with Titleist, there won't be a newer model for 2 years, if their normal gaps between new clubs are to go by.

Thanks for the offer but I bought new a few days ago. Won a few quid in a local lotto that covered it so that made up my mind. 239 from onlinegolf.EU

Every year I say " To hell with it, I'm going to get a new driver and get it fitted". But I'm with you, I wince at the thought of paying over €150 for a club. And that means I'm still playing with a 8 year old Driver that i got for free cause my father in law couldn't hit it.

I have paid it once, my current one was 300 euro - but have got 3 years out of it. I think it is something we will all do at some stage.

I was thinking 300 euro was daft - but was fitted and all that.

Just if 300 euro was daft - what is 450.

Sorry going on about it too much - but who will put a stop to this :D

As people say - market demand etc - do what you want with your own money.
Just think there is a bunch of clubs in the 200 to 300 euro range and they are all as good as each other.

Was at a range other day a lad had the brand new 915 (he had got a demo somehow) - nice looking flight -
said he had gained 15 yards carry - reducing his approach by a club. Was delighted for him.

So decided to knock a few hybrids past him for the laugh :D:P

Getting fitted doesn't mean you have to buy a new driver. You are just given the information about what suits you best, this could mean that your 8 year old driver is best for you or that the latest driver with an exotic shaft costing €800 might be best.

    No harm in finding out.

    Are lads spending that.

They must be - Irish PGA pro etc ?

    Or in Amateur championships ?

Or are some mid handicap players

When then Great Big Bertha came out it was £500 nearly 20 years ago, the Biggest Big Bertha a while later was £600, they weren't unpopular, and it wasn't just good players.

Some people still spend quite a bit on drivers, if you wanted you could easily spend €800 or more on a tour issue driver!!

A lot of grumpy old men moaning and groaning on this thread :-)

a good pal of mine spent 700+ on his last driver.....I nearly blew chunks when he told me! but as he explained, He doesn't drink nor smoke, bar the very odd meal out he has very little out goings bar the nippers, He quized me how much I would spend on partying a year and before I could even think about it, he asked what did I have to show for it too....Point well made i thought, still I couldn't chip into the drink fund to the tune of 700+, but fair funks to those who can and do.

    Does he hit it well.

Agree - do what you want , but can't see any value in that.

Eh...Can I take the fifth on that please.........?
No not overly, but he has, like mysel,f never been a good driver of the ball.
He's off 9, he'd be as good and as bad as the avg 9, if that makes sense.

Ok - so he should have gone on the beer more :D

Fair play - he is off 9 ,

So - he can do what he wants - but we can also pull the daft card as golfers too.

    But as this girl said.

Wasn't there a Callaway Driver that Monty used (might have subsequently have been made illegal, though not sure) that was impossible to hit. I remember bringing a friend and his friend out to play. We got 1/2 hour of how great this was and how far it went. Turns out the only person on the planet who could hit it was Monty.

    ERC Fusion maybe?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 492 ✭✭TrapperChamonix

    ERC Fusion maybe?

ERC II, that's the one. Had a sweet spot that was deemed to exceed the trampolining effect. Rather lie the G spot, the average player knew it was there somewhere but could never find it.

The friend of a friend missed 7 fairways on the front 9 and lost most of those. Stood up on the 10th tee and hit a iron and that was the last we saw of the ERC II.
By the way did I mention it cost a fortune.
I promise that I didn't inwardly laugh all the way round the back nine.
