Upgrade home sound / BR system

Looking to upgrade my home sound / playback system, but retain existing speakers.

The house is wired for speakers, inside and out with recessed ceiling speakers and marine quality outside. The cables are just stripped wiring control via a manual push button speaker switching box to isolate.

In the main TV room, there's an aging Panasonic CD/DVD/Radio surround sound system with a  PS3 (mainly for BR) and Sky box connected to a Sony smart TV.
This allows TV / Movies / Radio to be played on any combination of the internal / external speakers in stereo or surround sound.
I have a Belkin wi-fi extender with LAN connections behind the TV.

There is also another location in the living room where 4 sets of unused speaker wires terminate, (living room, study, kitchen, dining room).

    1. Would like to change to a new head unit (BR - Radio - DAB - MP3/4 - USB), which either controls the speakers digitally / electronically or add a new switching box.

    2. Also would like to extend the output from head unit to the other speakers where the wires terminate in the living room, so some type of wi-fi extender? If such a thing exists.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

    Dom

Hi Dom, thanks for the post.

The issue that you have here is that the head units that are made with the "all-in-one" systems are designed to work with the speakers that they come with and can be incompatible with other speakers / equipment.

Do you have a 5.1 speaker system in the living room wired to the existing head unit ?

Do you have any other speakers wired to this system ?

Could you have a look at the back of the speaker that you have and let us know what power handling and impedance that they are rated at ?

Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to run another 4 pairs of speakers from the same head unit as the amplifier in the main unit has to be capable of powering extra speakers which a lot of them are not designed for.

Are you looking to have the same sound in the living room and the other rooms ?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd need a little more info before I can get some sort of idea as to what we can get sorted for you.

    ATB
