Fast food toilet facilities.

My boyfriend and I occasionally go to a well-known fast food establishment. This establishment has seating for ca. 50 people, but there are no toilet facilities whatsoever.

I read on some sources, the Irish statute book to name one, in which it says that there must be one toilet, one sink and one urinal for males and one toilet and hand basin for females for up to 25 diners and more if there is >25 diners.

The definition of a restaurant given in the statue book is one in which food is served by waiting staff. This is not the case in the fast food establishment in question, so I'm not sure if it technically is a restaurant and if they have to provide facilities according to this law.

Are such fast food establishments required to provide toilet facilities?

I haven't a clue but why would you go to a place that has no toilet facilities?

My understanding is that there must be public toilets available within a certain distance from the outlet. Jervis Street SC for example would have several food outlets all of which will refer you to the public toilets.

There are rules, but I don't know what they are. They would apply primarily to sit-down food establishments as opposed to take-aways.

Checking with the HSE / council environmental health officer would be useful.

Which legislation did you read? It may be out of date.

Purely from memory, and I am too lazy to go and look this up again, there is something to the effect that the OP suggests in the planning code. Which means that if you apply for planning permission for a restaurant now, your plan will need to include the appropriate toilet facilities or you won't get approval. An existing restaurant, however, may have been granted planning permission at a time when different rules or standards were in place.
