Making a "personal Cinema" with iPhone

I was at the web summit & experienced the google cardboard headset. It's a pretty nifty thing & although made up for VR & 3D, it occurred to me that it could be converted to make a "Personal Cinema" - ideal for lying on the sofa or in bed. Theres plenty of them on ebay, has anyone ever tried ?
