Unfortunate news today of Solwhit having a bad fall schooling and had to be put down.

Super horse and somewhat an underrated one too. Without Hurricane Fly he'd have had another 4 Grade 1's to his name and thats without the injuries he suffered in his career.

    RIP

Agreed - very good horse. Always sad to see horse pass away while still relatively in their prime - had at least another good year of racing left in him at top level and definitely would have deserved a nice retirement after that.

    RIP

Very sad new. Tremendous horse and a great servant to Charles Byrnes.

Very sad to hear of this. Was his BIGGEST follower and will miss his exploits. Sad for the connections.

A savage animal that performed very consistently on the big occasion. World Hurdle win was a joy to watch.

Owned by the Top of the Hill syndicate, so called because one of the members Ger Gaynor, his pub is on the top of Hill St in Wexford town. If coming into Wexford town from the hospital side of town, you drive down past his pub on the top of Hill St. One of the best known pubs in the town, I'd say they had many a good night in there after wins. I think they might have another horse, either similar in breeding or from the same country as Solwhit. The members I know are gentlemen, Pat O Hanlon and Ger Gaynor. I hope they do well down the line with any other horses they get. Solwhit was such a popular horse with horse racing fans, tough and a battler.

A savage animal that performed very consistently on the big occasion. World Hurdle win was a joy to watch.

His Liverpool Hurdle win after that absolutely highlighted his class and was a joy to watch with Carberry goading the jockeys and horses behind him. Love the way he travels between Smad Place and Grands Crus and Carberry takes a right pull and then fires him into the last which he took like a top 2 mile hurdler should and that jump put it to bed.

Real shame he ran into Hurricane Fly and got injured, 8 group 1s is a remarkable result all things considered.

    RIP Solwhit you legend.
