New Tyres Needed

This forum has certainly helped me out before....

I need new tyres, when I bought the car it came with some Chinese ditchfinders, they were new though so I let them be, now they're worn and its time for a change as we're well into the slippy weather.

    The tyres needed are 235 / 35 / 19

I'm based in Galway and just called Kevin Burke Tyres, their options are:

    Fullway @ €85 each.
    Falcon @ €135 each
    Yokohama @ €205 each.

I probably dont need to say Im not swimming in cash right now, but am feeling inclined towards the Falcons, Fullway sounds appealing due to the price but a quick google doesnt turn up much faith in them.

Does the Motoring forum have any advice? Any other factors I need to consider before making a decision. I drove about 8,000 miles a year.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Oponeo have Federal 595evo's for 109eur. Decent mid range tyre and a million times better than any Fullway or Falcon tyres. You'd need a fitter to put them on fot you however.

Federal are in no way a mid range tyre, they are an economy brand.

The only positive is they don't wear, but you'll have died in a ball of flames anyway if you keep them on a car.

Are Falcon not a decent brand?

In terms of holidays or tyres? I had that size on a previous car, for 135 quid I wouldn't be overly hopeful. They are an unusual size and you'll pay for them but it will be worth investing a few quid more.

Any tyre in that size for €100 or less will be pure ditch finders. You will be talking strong money for decent tyres in that size. Anything half decent in that size will be costing you between €130 and €150 a corner.

Thanks for the tips guys, I've been offered 4 tyres that have been stored in a warehouse for 4 years. I'm told they would harden each year, but they havent been exposed to UV, any thoughts? I have to find the specific type and original value, but they're falkens.

It's a golf lads, not the space shuttle, federals are ok for that car. Had them on my wife's car and they were fine.

OP, falkan tyres or falcon? Falkan are good tyres in the FK452 or 453 variety. I had them before and they were very good. Don't know what 4yrs of storage would have done for them, also check nct requirements re. tyres, do they need to be under a certain age?

The owner should be advised of any tyre with a tread depth of less than 3mm or, where the date of manufacture is obvious on the tyre (Item 7 on the tyre illustration in Section 37), a tyre older than six years.

You don't think too much of her so in that case Federals are pure rubbish not only road holding but the road noise is unbelievable.

@op try oponeo.ie I got 235/45/17 Uniroyal rainsport for 90 euro a corner delivered and gave a local tyre dude 25 quid to fit them.

I just stuck in your sizes and they are roughly 150 a corner for Pirelli or similar.

Try Nankang, very good for the money.

All, I realised I hadnt closed the loop here.

I got 4 Marangoni tyres @ €125 a corner, they seem fine I havent noticed any problems so far, not that I've been driving like a fool anyway.

Thanks for all the advice, I know no one recommended Marangoni's but ye kept me away from those tyres sitting in the warehouse for 4 years. Much appreciated.
